Family Medicine Physician

Health Advocates Network is seeking a Family Medicine Physician to work at a facility in Williamsburg, VA. The position is a registry position with our company.
Job Summary:The Family Medicine Physician will be responsible for patient care, including examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population.
Responsibilities:- Responsible for patient care that includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population.
- Serves as medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.
- Completes admission medical assessments (including history and physical examinations, mental status examination) and entering admission orders.
- Orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures.
- Monitors patients' progress, including laboratory values and special procedures with appropriate follow-up or referrals as needed.
- Consults with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.
- Collaborates with attending psychiatric practitioner if needed providing DSM-5 Diagnoses that are valid, complete, and supported by timely and appropriate assessment.
- Provides coverage to the medical clinic, the admission suit to ensure the admission process is completed.
- Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices. Assesses and address medication side-effects and report adverse drug reactions.
- Ensures timely and quality documentation (admissions, follow-up and annual, etc.) in patient records in accordance with policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and guidelines.
- 3+ years as a Physician/Practitioner, autonomous preferred.
- Strong experience working with patients having Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
- Psychiatric Crisis Management and Forensic experience, a plus.
- Experience working with adult admissions or geriatric admissions and acute and chronic health management of adult and geriatric populations.
- Comfortable working on admissions work up and potential rapid turnover.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- BLS Healthcare Provider certification is required.
The facility is a hospital with acute, adult, inpatient wards (male and female). The facility demographics include forensic, NGRI, civil, jail transfer, and geriatric populations. The facility stay is short and long-term, with a caseload that varies by ward and assignment. Psychiatry coverage is provided, and a full complement of interdisciplinary team members is available.
