Position Overview

The RF Systems Test Engineer plays a critical role in the development and evaluation of advanced aerospace hardware. This position involves the creation and management of comprehensive test documentation for various projects, ensuring thorough execution from initial concept through to completion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Documentation Development: Formulate and oversee high-value test documents that align with project objectives.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Systems Engineering team to establish test requirements and verification strategies.
  • Customer Engagement: Interface with clients to negotiate testing criteria and collaboratively develop detailed plans while providing updates on test progress.
  • Program Representation: Act as a representative for test engineering during significant program milestones and serve as an expert reviewer during Test Readiness Reviews.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify and implement testing methodologies and fixtures aimed at reducing risks associated with prototype development and requirement validation.
  • Testing Execution: Plan and conduct RF performance and environmental assessments, including functional, vibration, thermal cycling, and thermal vacuum tests.
  • Facility Improvement: Enhance the testing capabilities of in-house facilities and collaborate with sister companies to utilize existing resources effectively.
  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of test engineers on intricate projects, ensuring effective collaboration and project execution.
  • Independent Work: Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight.
Qualifications:
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field, with at least 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Advanced Degrees: A Master’s or PhD in a related discipline may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Hands-on Experience: Proven experience in space applications, particularly with small satellites and deployable structures.
  • Testing Expertise: Familiarity with assembling and testing hardware designed for space environments.
  • Data Processing: Experience in overseeing and analyzing data from RF performance and environmental tests, including vibration and thermal cycling assessments.
  • Documentation Skills: Proficient in drafting comprehensive test documentation, including plans, procedures, and reports for complex projects.
  • Project Management: Experience in preparing and leading project stage-gate meetings and liaising with clients.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with antenna and microwave communication system testing.
  • Knowledge of rigging and testing large structures is advantageous.
  • Understanding of composite design, analysis, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with NASA/SMC standards.
  • Proficiency in CAD for designing and fabricating mechanical systems and fixtures.
  • Experience with structural and metrology testing methods.
  • Skilled in using both manual and electronic testing equipment for various measurements.
