About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Animal Behavior and Welfare Specialist to join our team at the ASPCA Adoption Center. As a key member of our Behavioral Sciences Team, you will play a vital role in providing safe, high-quality scientifically based behavioral support for dogs and cats from intake through outcome.

The ideal candidate will have strong feline and canine handling skills, with a focus on low-stress handling. You will be responsible for implementing and sustaining behavior modification and enrichment plans for all populations of animals in the Adoption Center, as well as participating in daily Medical/Behavioral/Sheltering (MBS) rounds. Additionally, you will work closely with animals who are behaviorally and/or medically compromised, and participate in euthanasia decision-making when necessary.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement and sustain behavior modification and enrichment plans for all populations of animals in the Adoption Center

Requirements:
  • Strong feline and canine handling skills, with a focus on low-stress handling
  • Ability to thrive in a physically demanding role handling strong, energetic and sometimes fractious animals
  • Ability to walk, bend, lift, climb stairs and walk multiple dogs per day
  • Consistently maintains a positive attitude; treats both animals and people with respect
  • Strong problem-solving abilities; likes to troubleshoot and find solutions when facing challenges
