Academic Support Coordinator

The role is integral to the functioning of the accessibility services and accommodations within the Student Success Center. The individual will collaborate closely with students, faculty, and staff to facilitate and coordinate necessary accommodations for students with disabilities. Additionally, the specialist will contribute to academic support and retention initiatives promoted by the Center.
Key Responsibilities:
- Examination Management: Oversee the scheduling and proctoring of examinations for students with sanctioned testing accommodations. (30%)
- Student Caseload Management: Maintain a dedicated caseload of students with disabilities and those in probationary programs; provide regular, individualized academic coaching to these students. (15%)
- Accommodation Implementation: Assist in the execution of university protocols for students to request, assess, and implement academic and housing accommodations, including temporary measures and assistive technology. (20%)
- Workshop Development: Design, plan, and execute student workshops and resource materials that offer research-based best practices for academic success, in collaboration with graduate assistants. (15%)
- Retention Outreach: Engage in outreach efforts to students, conducting academic interventions through processes such as early alert and midterm evaluations. (10%)
- Peer Support Programs: Aid in the establishment and upkeep of Peer Led Executive Functioning Skills groups, collaborating with Peer Leaders on curriculum and outreach initiatives. (10%)
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor's degree is required, ideally in education, special/inclusive education, rehabilitation, psychology, counseling, or a related field.
Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a higher education environment is preferred, particularly in teaching and lesson plan development, as well as working with individuals with disabilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with current state and federal laws regarding the rights of individuals with disabilities and the responsibilities of higher education institutions.
- Understanding of effective methods for providing reasonable accommodations while upholding program performance standards.
- Knowledge of student development theories and their practical applications.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to recognize and address the unique needs of diverse and underrepresented student populations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
