Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Superintendent to join our team at Gateway Terminal in New Haven, CT. As a key member of our management staff, you will be responsible for providing guidance and direction to supervisors and lead associates, ensuring accurate, efficient, and timely delivery of cargo, and maintaining a safe and secure work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to supervisors and lead associates to ensure effective communication and coordination of daily operations.
  • Develop and implement plans to improve productivity, efficiency, and safety in the terminal.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and security procedures.
  • Coordinate with the Port Captain and Cargo Officer to ensure smooth stowage, loading, and discharging operations.
  • Train and develop associates to ensure they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Initiate performance evaluations, recommend pay changes, and initiate a progressive disciplinary process as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies.
Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a supervisory or management role in a terminal or warehouse environment.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Valid driver's license and a 3-year driving history that is acceptable to our auto insurance carrier.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

The associate is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, handle objects, reach with hands and arms, and write, talk, type, and hear. The associate is occasionally required to sit, stoop, bend, or kneel and lift and, or move up to 35 lbs. The associate is typically in an office environment but frequently visits a warehouse or outdoor environment.
