About the Role:

The Maintenance Engineer at Advocate Health is a critical member of our team, responsible for performing a variety of specialized electrical, mechanical-HVAC, and clinical repairs. This role requires a high level of expertise in at least one of the tradecrafts, with a working knowledge in other pertinent areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Maintenance Activities: Perform routine maintenance tasks for all Advocate Health buildings and practice sites, including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs.
  • Electrical and Mechanical Repairs: Troubleshoot and repair electrical distribution systems, fire alarm equipment, and HVAC systems, including installation of new equipment and replacement of existing components.
  • Plumbing and HVAC Repairs: Perform major plumbing repairs, including replacement of sinks, commodes, and piping, as well as repair and maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Operate power tools, utilize hand tools, and perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency requests for service, including electrical, HVAC, and plumbing emergencies, and perform repairs as needed.
  • Documentation and Communication: Maintain accurate records of routine service, preventive maintenance, and special projects, and communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: High school graduate or GED, plus training required for stationary engineers license, and three years of experience working with boilers, pumps, H.V.A.C. systems, and associated equipment in a large institution or major facility.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Skilled in the proper use of power tools and test equipment, with specific knowledge in one trade and general knowledge of maintenance, repairs, installations, and procedures.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Current City of Chicago, City of Elgin, or National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE) stationary engineers license, and current State of Illinois driver's license.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands: Ability to travel, walk, climb, push, pull, bend, and reach, with exposure to hazardous materials and toxic substances, and ability to work in extreme cold or hot working conditions and confined spaces.
  • Environmental Factors: Ability to work on electrical circuits up to 220 VAC, and ability to work rotating shifts and day of the week, including holidays.
