Overview

The New York Public Library is renowned for being the most extensive public library system in the nation. The Library Shop, located within this iconic building, caters to numerous visitors annually, offering a diverse range of literary items and books.

We are looking for a dedicated Seasonal Part-Time Retail Associate who will serve as both a cashier and the welcoming face of our shop. This role requires enthusiasm, a solid understanding of our products, and a knack for engaging with customers. Whether assisting a customer in selecting the perfect gift or maintaining a clean and organized environment, this individual should approach every task with a positive attitude. A keen visual memory and a desire to learn about our offerings are essential.

Proficiency and speed in using a POS system are crucial. While a flexible schedule is preferred, availability on Saturdays is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

The Seasonal Part-Time Retail Associate will report to the Manager of The Library Shop.
  • Engage customers with enthusiasm and product knowledge.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and management.
  • Utilize a POS retail system with speed and courtesy.
  • Maintain inventory and restock displays as needed.
  • Work independently while contributing to team goals.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:

Education:
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma.
Experience:
  • At least two years of sales experience, ideally in a busy retail environment.
  • Experience operating a register and POS system.
  • A minimum of one year in a retail setting handling cash.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience collaborating within a team.
  • Strong communication skills with a diverse customer base.

Physical Requirements:
  • Standing for the majority of the shift.
  • Bending and lifting for restocking purposes.

Schedule:
  • Availability on Saturdays (some Sundays during peak seasons).
