Job Title: Public Service Officer

Job Summary

The Public Service Officer is responsible for providing security services to Parkland Health and Hospital System's buildings, campuses, and assets. This includes monitoring traffic, limiting access to restricted areas, and responding to service calls. The successful candidate will be a team player who is able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor traffic and limit access to restricted areas, following established policies and procedures.
  • Monitor high-risk patients in the Emergency room or other assigned areas.
  • Drive an escort shuttle to and from parking lots and escort patients to ensure safe passage.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with patients, visitors, and staff to promote customer satisfaction.
  • Provide instructions, physical help, and perform other duties as needed to support a safe environment.
  • Patrol assigned areas to discover and report safety and security hazards, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure vehicle and pedestrian traffic moves smoothly within the campus.
  • Respond to service calls by following established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports consistent with internal practice and as required by law.
  • Identify ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction, making recommendations to supervisors as needed.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the security field by attending seminars, workshops, and reading professional journals, integrating knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the department, developing effective internal controls to promote adherence to applicable state and federal laws.
  • Provide assistance in related areas and other assigned duties to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
  • Must be able to pass a typing test with a minimum of 20 words per minute, with no more than three errors.
  • Must successfully pass a physical agility assessment.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment polygraph test prior to employment.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to deal with the public in a tactful and diplomatic manner.
  • Must be able to handle stressful and possible crisis situations.
Working Conditions

The Public Service Officer will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with patients, visitors, and staff on a regular basis. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a team environment and provide excellent customer service.
