Detention Service Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Detention Service Officer to join our team at the Dallas County jail system.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and control inmates during various aspects of incarceration, including booking, identification, confinement, recreation, and release.
- Perform initial physical searches, confiscate and inventory personal items, and record personal and medical information.
- Classify and compare fingerprints to establish positive identification of inmates.
- Supervise the removal and storage of inmates' street clothes, issuance of jail clothing and bedding, and retrieval of street clothes for transfer to court or release.
- Monitor and control inmates' behavior in holdover cells and housing unit cells, and conduct physical head counts.
- Operate internal and external doors and elevators to maximize safety, security, and inmate control.
- Provide kitchen security during food preparation, transportation, and cleanup.
- Escort inmates to and from the law library, recreation facilities, religious services, visitation, and other functions.
- Search inmates' incoming mail to identify, remove, and document contraband.
- Respond to jail emergencies and conduct unannounced detailed searches of inmates' cells and other jail facilities.
- Graduation from an accredited High School/GED program or 12 hours from an accredited college or university with a grade 'C' or better.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments, and the general public.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and pass a polygraph exam, psychological exam, and extensive background investigation.
- Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain all State and Sheriff's Department Commissioning requirements.
Must be able to perform defense tactics against individuals and work varied days and shift schedules, including weekends and holidays. Potential exposure to communicable diseases.
