POSITION SUMMARY:
As a pivotal member of the healthcare team, the Clinical Nurse II assumes comprehensive responsibility and accountability in accordance with the standards set forth by the American Nurses Association. This role requires the Registered Nurse to engage as a full partner in patient care, consistently demonstrating safe and effective practices within the organizational framework of professional nursing.The Clinical Nurse II possesses the essential knowledge, skills, and professional demeanor necessary to meet the standards for competent nursing practice. This role embodies the mission of Penn Medicine and integrates experience standards that are fundamental to the professional practice competency domains. The Clinical Nurse II independently delivers patient care by applying the nursing process and takes responsibility for the nursing care of assigned patients, who may range from infants to the elderly.
The Clinical Nurse II showcases competencies in Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice and Research, Leadership, Person and Family-Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork.
Collaboration with the interprofessional healthcare team is essential to facilitate the coordination of care across the continuum. The nurse is dedicated to enhancing their knowledge and skills to provide tailored care that considers the physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate needs of assigned patients.
The Clinical Nurse II actively seeks feedback to embrace leadership roles and provides constructive feedback to enhance clinical practice. This role illustrates how nursing practice aligns with the organizational vision, mission, and goals, as well as the care delivery system. Compliance with all regulations and standards from regulatory and accrediting bodies is mandatory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must possess the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
- Integrate the mission, vision, and values of Lancaster General Health into patient care planning.
- Function as both an independent and interdependent member of the healthcare team as outlined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
- Conduct patient assessments, focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive functions. Evaluate progress towards outcomes and adapt care plans based on recognized trends and changes. Collect and manage comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health.
- Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues. Formulate age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care plans.
- Implement care knowledgeably and coordinate patient care across various disciplines and caregivers.
- Provide leadership to team members by effectively communicating expected standards of care and encouraging contributions.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
- Assign, delegate, and supervise other staff, intervening as necessary to ensure continuity of care and achievement of established outcomes.
- Educate patients on healthy practices and treatment options.
- Continuously enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices, utilizing technology where appropriate.
- Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the planning and delivery of nursing services.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary responsibilities listed above:
- Manage rapidly changing situations by following established protocols and coordinating with appropriate health team members and resources.
- Engage in process improvement activities aimed at enhancing continuity in nurse-patient relationships and minimizing redundancies.
- Complete mandatory education and training, including age-specific needs and interpersonal skills as defined by the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
- Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to evidence-based practice policies and promptly reporting safety variances.
- Exhibit pride in work through positive interactions with staff, coworkers, patients, and others.
- Pursue experiences and learning activities to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills.
- Provide supervision, guidance, and mentoring to peers and subordinates to enhance learning experiences and improve the professional practice environment.
- Participate in the employee performance process for peers and subordinates, addressing issues and evaluating performance.
- Fulfill on-call responsibilities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current RN licensure issued by the PA Board of Nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher-level nursing degree is required.
- Completion of the Nurse Residency Program or over 15 months of nursing practice.
- CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support is required within 30 days of hire.
- Must be a healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- As outlined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
