Job Title: Patient Benefits Representative

Virginia Oncology Associates is seeking a highly skilled Patient Benefits Representative to support our Chesapeake location. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring our patients receive the best possible care while navigating the complexities of insurance coverage and financial assistance.

Responsibilities:
  • Obtain and verify patient insurance coverage information and demographics prior to treatment.
  • Educate patients on insurance coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Assess patients' ability to meet expenses and discuss payment arrangements.
  • Complete Patient Cost Estimate forms and forward relevant information to the billing office.
  • Obtain insurance pre-authorization or referral approval codes prior to each treatment.
  • Verify and update patient demographics and insurance coverage in our computer system.
  • Stay current on available financial assistance programs and develop professional relationships with providers.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to state, federal, and HIPAA laws and guidelines.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum three years of pre-services coordinator experience and two years of patient benefits experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CPT coding and HCPS coding application.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to utilize correct terminology.
  • Ability to travel to all clinic locations as needed.
