Purdue University Mechanical Engineer Position

As a Mechanical Engineer in Capital Asset Management, you will provide project engineering support through review, research, analysis, design, communication, coordination, and field observation activities. You will work with project managers to resolve engineering issues on projects and review and comment on engineering work of outside architectural/engineering firms. This position will work with all members of the project team through planning, design, construction, and warranty. You will provide post-project facility engineering consultation and design, analysis, and field engineering support of select projects and Physical Facilities programs. You will also provide facilities engineering support to operations and maintenance staff and other departments upon request, and provide condition assessment support for the building condition assessment program.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will need the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology with a mechanical emphasis
  • Minimum Three (3) years of experience in the field of mechanical engineering
    • Design, analysis, condition assessment, project engineering, and facilities engineering experience in building mechanical systems
    • Experience with HVAC system commissioning and controls concepts and strategies desired
    • Experience with energy efficient design concepts desired
    • AutoCAD or Microstation drafting experience desired
    • Consideration for equivalent combination of education and experience
  • FE desired
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will need the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology with a mechanical emphasis required.
  • Indiana PE Registration Required or ability to attain within 90 days
  • Minimum Four (4) years of experience in the field of mechanical engineering (Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.)
    • Design, analysis, condition assessment, project engineering, and facilities engineering experience in building mechanical systems
    • Experience with HVAC system commissioning and controls concepts and strategies desired
    • Experience with energy efficient design concepts desired
    • AutoCAD or Microstation drafting experience desired
Skills Needed:
  • As a Mechanical Engineer, you will need the following:
  • Knowledge of basic engineering principles and techniques of engineering planning; of equipment and materials used in engineering operations; of specialized subjects used in the fields of engineering, such as mathematics, statistics, mechanics, power, physics, and chemistry; and of strength of materials
  • Ability is required to apply engineering principles to practical engineering problems; to use engineering equipment and tools, including computer applications; to make, read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to:
    • relate abstract ideas to actual needs and adopt an effective course of action
    • establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
    • perform directed activities with regular engineering oversight, guidance, and assistance
    • analyze and design engineering solutions with regular engineering oversight
    • exercise professional judgment within a limited framework
