Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse Informaticist (CNI) is a clinical leader in the Department of Health Informatics at UCSF Health who serves as the liaison for health IT efforts supporting clinical workflows and associated information systems requirements in all areas that support digital solutions in the clinical setting. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring the analysis, design, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of assigned EHR and other IT projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include clinical relevancy and in-depth knowledge and expertise in clinical workflows, informatics, evidence-based practice, consultation, and leadership.
  • Serves as a champion for complex clinical projects and systems that support digital solutions in patient engagement and clinical care delivery.
  • Acts as the liaison to align clinical and Clinical Systems standards with departmental workflows, processes, and policies.
  • Influences outcomes by providing expert consultation to all care providers and implementing improvements in information systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in nursing informatics, information systems, or clinical experience in the specialty area.
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more clinical specialty areas, to include diagnoses, treatments, standards of practice, and patient/family educational consulting and resources.
  • Advanced knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess highly complex issues and develop multiple options for resolution.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide education, training, and direction to nursing staff, and to develop positive working relationships with patients, families, employees, and outside agencies as required.
