Position: Legal Counsel

The SUFFOLK COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT is in search of a proficient Legal Counsel to provide expert representation in matters concerning contracts and procurement. The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in civil litigation along with exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate, draft, and assemble documentation for departmental contract and procurement requirements.
  • Support the assessment, drafting, and organization of departmental policies.
  • Conduct research and prepare legal memoranda addressing pertinent legal topics.
  • Oversee FOIA requests and investigate assigned incidents.
  • Offer guidance to interns, paralegals, and administrative personnel.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses.
Required Qualifications:
  • Admission to the Massachusetts and Federal Bar.
  • Preferred experience in contract law and related regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to maintain precise records.
  • Effective communication skills.
Core Functions:
  • Draft Requests for Responses (RFRs) for departmental procurement needs.
  • Manage legal matters arising from procurement initiatives.
  • Provide counsel on contract and procurement issues.
  • Address FOIA requests and assist in audits.
  • Maintain good standing with the Massachusetts and Federal Bar.
  • Adhere to security protocols and policies.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral form.
  • Capability to sit or stand intermittently for 8 hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Proficient in using a personal computer and writing.
Additional Information:

Participation in mandatory training sessions is required.
