About the Role

The Graduate Roosevelt Island is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of food preparation and presentation, while maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Food Preparation and Presentation: Ensure that all meals are prepared to the highest standard, with regard to quality, consistency, presentation, taste, and food cost.
  • Team Management: Provide training and guidance to kitchen staff, ensuring that they are equipped to meet the demands of the role.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and control food and labor costs, while maximizing guest satisfaction.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular quality checks to ensure that all food products meet the required standards.
  • Reporting and Administration: Prepare and submit required reports, including food cost reports, inventory reports, and staff schedules.
  • Loss Prevention: Coordinate and monitor all phases of loss prevention in kitchen areas.
  • Guest Service: Respond to guest complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, as well as company standards and procedures.
Requirements
  • Experience: At least 4 years of related progressive experience, or a culinary graduate with at least 2 years of progressive experience in a hotel or related field.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of food preparation techniques, health department rules and regulations, liquor laws and regulations.
  • Skills: Ability to multitask, prioritize departmental functions, and maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Physical Demands: Medium work - exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
