Job Summary

The Lead Health System Specialist is a critical role within the Veterans Health Administration, responsible for providing leadership and technical direction to the Credentialing and Privileging (C&P) Office. This position requires a strong understanding of healthcare systems, policies, and procedures, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight and input regarding compliance with VHA policies, directives, memos, and notices.
  • Collect and analyze data to ensure qualified healthcare professionals are providing appropriate care in appropriate settings.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to providers and service chiefs regarding routine and complex matters related to C&P.
  • Lead a team of C&P Specialists, assigning, monitoring, and reviewing their work.
  • Train or arrange for the training of team members in methods and techniques of technical skills and team building.
  • Maintain reference materials, project files, and relevant background documents.
  • Participate in policy and decision-making initiatives.
  • Ensure quality assurance in the VAMC's C&P program.
  • Conduct and oversee internal controls and audits.
Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Applicants may qualify based on experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: One year of progressively responsible analytical or administrative, or clinical management or supervisory experience in the healthcare field.
  • Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
  • Combination: An equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate level and specialized experience.
