Position Overview:
The Early Head Start Nutrition Specialist at Vista Village is responsible for providing nutrition consultation and training to staff, parents, and family childcare providers. This role includes maintaining and monitoring systems for accurate tracking of children's nutrition and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures aligned with Head Start Performance Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan, organize, coordinate, and oversee nutrition services for all enrolled children.
2. Offer consultation and technical assistance to family childcare homes, including menu planning, meal preparation, and evaluation of CACFP compliant nutritional programs.
4. Conduct regular observations of mealtimes in childcare settings.
5. Collaborate with staff to coordinate menu planning for socialization groups.
6. Deliver training to family childcare providers to enhance food service and sanitation practices.
7. Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations governing nutrition services for Early Head Start children and their families.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
2. Knowledge and experience in early childhood education philosophy and practices, with a focus on culturally and socioeconomically diverse children and families.
4. Familiarity with current best practices in infant and toddler nutrition.
5. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
6. Valid California Driver's License and access to a vehicle.
