Position Overview:
The Early Head Start Nutrition Specialist at Vista Village is responsible for delivering nutrition consultation and training to staff, parents, and family childcare providers. This role includes maintaining and overseeing systems to ensure accurate tracking of children's nutritional needs while ensuring compliance with established policies and Head Start Performance Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan, organize, and oversee nutrition services for all enrolled children.
2. Provide expert consultation and technical assistance to family childcare homes, including menu planning, meal preparation, and evaluation of compliance with CACFP nutritional standards.
3. Offer nutrition and breastfeeding guidance as the lactation lead to staff and families both in the office and in the field.
4. Conduct regular observations of mealtimes in childcare settings.
5. Collaborate with staff to coordinate menu planning for socialization groups.
6. Deliver training to family childcare providers to enhance food service and sanitation practices.
7. Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations governing nutrition services for Early Head Start children and their families.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
2. Knowledge and experience in early childhood education philosophies and practices, particularly with culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations.
3. Understanding of the physical and emotional developmental stages of children aged 0-3.
4. Familiarity with current best practices in infant and toddler nutrition.
5. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
6. Valid California Driver's License and access to a vehicle.
What You Bring:
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification.
COVID Vaccination Card (full vaccination) is required.
