Job Overview

Work Environment: Ames's campus, 800 Lincoln Way, Ames IA 50010

Shift Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (schedule negotiable).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the custodial team within the Support Services Bureau at the Iowa DOT Ames complex.
  • Ensure cleanliness of facilities through various tasks including dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, carpet cleaning, mopping, buffing tile floors, restroom sanitation, restocking supplies, and managing waste disposal.
  • Report maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  • Clear snow from entrances as required.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of standard custodial practices, the types of supplies used, and the operation of custodial equipment. Physical fitness is essential for handling equipment and lifting waste bags weighing up to 60 pounds. Assistance in the DOT Mail Center may also be required.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Familiarity with cleaning equipment and supplies, ensuring safe usage.
  • Awareness of occupational hazards and safety protocols relevant to the role.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing, kneeling, and lifting while adhering to safety standards.
  • Capability to operate vehicles safely and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Utilization of communication devices and basic computer applications.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License is mandatory.
  • Compliance with safety footwear requirements.
