Position Overview:
As a Sanitation Specialist, you will be an integral part of the custodial team within the Support Services Bureau of the Iowa Department of Transportation. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the facilities.

Your duties will include:

  • Performing general cleaning tasks such as dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and buffing floors.
  • Maintaining restrooms by cleaning and restocking supplies.
  • Managing waste disposal by emptying trash receptacles and handling garbage bags weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Ensuring custodial closets are organized and well-stocked.
  • Reporting maintenance needs to your supervisor.
  • Clearing snow from entrances to maintain safe access.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Knowledge of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Understanding of safety precautions and occupational hazards related to custodial work.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks such as climbing, kneeling, and lifting.
  • Ability to operate communication devices and access computer applications.
