Position Overview: Mercy Hospital's Emergency Department (ED) is eager to welcome a Registered Nurse (RN) Resident to our dynamic team of healthcare providers. This cutting-edge ED features 49 patient beds and a specialized 5-bed triage/super-track treatment area, enabling our staff to deliver swift, safe, and high-quality patient care. As an RN Resident, you will engage in a tailored year-long residency program designed to meet your individual needs and pace. You will provide direct nursing care, work alongside a mentor who will guide you toward success, enhance your clinical judgment, develop exceptional communication skills, and master complex nursing techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in a residency core curriculum tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Deliver direct nursing care alongside a mentor, adhering to established policies and protocols.
  • Adjust priorities for patient care based on acuity, patient preferences, and resource availability.
  • Initiate and maintain interventions to ensure continuity of safe and effective patient care.
  • Respond to data indicating health risks and take appropriate action to mitigate them.
  • Seek supervision and assistance when necessary to ensure safe and independent practice.
  • Comply with hospital and departmental personnel policies.
  • Utilize effective communication strategies to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Document patient care accurately in medical records according to established guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Certifications:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification may be required based on department.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on specific clinical areas.

Work Experience:

  • New graduates or RNs with less than one year of experience in acute direct patient care.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform a full range of body motions, including lifting and handling patients.
  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Requires normal vision and hearing capabilities.
  • Ability to work under stress and manage irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Adhere to Standard Precautions and utilize personal protective equipment as necessary.
