Position Overview: The Vehicle Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in upholding the Museum's mission by ensuring the safe and efficient operation of its vehicles and equipment.
  • Effectively addresses facility requests as directed by the supervisor.
  • Coordinates repair activities with the supervisor and relevant personnel.
  • Maintains and services the train engine, coaches, and tracks.
  • Conducts routine mechanical and preventive maintenance tasks, suggesting enhancements to maintenance schedules.
  • Performs both scheduled and emergency maintenance on vehicles.
  • Diagnoses issues, adjusts, repairs, and overhauls various vehicular systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Maintains and repairs additional mechanical equipment such as mowers, tractors, and generators.
  • Orders necessary parts and supplies.
  • Keeps accurate computerized and manual records of all maintenance activities.
  • Engages with customers and vendors as required.
  • Recommends outsourcing for complex repairs when necessary.
  • Executes welding repairs as needed.
  • Assists with other assigned facilities projects or tasks.
Actual Pay Rate: $27.00-$34.00/hour

Compensation Details: The hourly rate for this position ranges from $27 to $34, determined by various factors including education, certifications, and relevant experience.

Position Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a vehicular mechanic.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Familiarity with standard materials, tools, and techniques related to automotive service and repair.
  • Physical capability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 75 lbs, walking, and manual dexterity.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with expertise in diagnostics and repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate well with the Facilities team and interact positively with staff and visitors.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience; a high school diploma or GED is mandatory, with trade school or technical degree preferred.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Certification from the National Institute for Auto Service Excellence (ASE).
  • Proficiency in welding.
