Mechanic - Light Duty Position

Perform skilled preventive maintenance, repairs, and adjustments on County Fleet vehicles, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures under basic supervision.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose and repair components for electrical, electronic, fuel supply, hydraulics, and cooling systems.
- Determine extent of necessary repairs, and prioritize work tasks.
- Transport equipment from the field to the repair facility and perform emergency repairs in the field as required.
- Review status of equipment and perform safety inspections, identify and report equipment problems requiring additional maintenance and repair, and notify supervisors of major repair problems.
- Install and test auxiliary and specialized equipment.
- Perform routine shop facility maintenance, clean work areas, and pick up debris, dispose of lubricants and chemicals in accordance with FSD safety regulations and procedures.
- Maintain work orders, records, and logs of services performed and general vehicle information, report any operational problems to the supervisor in a timely manner, and complete other reports as required.
- Control work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are followed and recognize, avoid, and report safety hazards, equipment problems, repair needs, security issues, and emergency situations.
- Maintain proficiency with fleet management & maintenance system software and other systems as required by the job.
- Provide training to an assigned Mechanic Trainee to complete minor adjustments and repairs for required additional assistance.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
- Inspect and diagnose mechanical and electrical problems on County automobiles, trucks, and specialty vehicles.
- Diagnose, repair, and overhaul vehicle engines, transmissions, power trains, braking, and steering; and use technical manuals and computer equipment to diagnose and correct vehicle problems and faults.
- May perform arc and acetylene welding, fabricate and modify metal components, and perform body repairs.
- May assist FSD Heavy Equipment Mechanics with repair projects as requested.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to a minimum of two years of experience in the automotive/equipment repair industry servicing light and/or heavy equipment.
- Or one year of experience (Light/Heavy) with Pinal County as a Mechanic-Trainee or an Equipment Service Technician.
- Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
- Certification as a General Automotive Mechanic is desirable. The following ASE certifications are highly desirable: Suspension and Steering A-4, Brakes A-5, Electrical/Electronic Systems A-6, and Engine Performance A-8.
