Position Overview:
This role is vital within the laboratory, engaging with patients and healthcare staff. It is a non-credentialed position that aids in the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes of laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities:
1) Patient registration, 2) Phlebotomy for inpatients, outpatients, or outreach services, 3) Sample processing, aliquoting, and preparation for transport/testing, and 4) Conducting CLIA waived tests.

Detailed Responsibilities:
Pre-Analytic Workflows:
Welcomes all individuals with a friendly and professional demeanor, adhering to patient experience best practices (AIDET, 5/10 Rule, etc.).

Utilizes two patient identifiers to accurately identify patients and samples, ensuring samples are labeled in the patient's presence.


Independently performs venous and capillary blood collections for patients of all ages, adhering to safety protocols and timelines.

Handles sample receiving, accessioning, processing, aliquoting, and preparation for transport and/or delivery to testing areas.

Efficiently manages supply items, recognizing when to reorder and assisting with restocking as needed.

Develops a foundational understanding of laboratory tests to address patient inquiries in a clear and comprehensible manner.

Analytic Workflows:
Conducts CLIA waived testing on medical samples in accordance with manufacturer guidelines, employing good laboratory practices.

Maintains efficiency with workflow and workload.

Documents routine maintenance of instruments and escalates non-routine issues to management.

Post-Analytic Workflows:
Adheres to appropriate reporting protocols, including critical value reporting.

Monitors pending logs and work queues, resolving pending tests and registration discrepancies.

Prepares and logs samples for proper storage and retention.

Team Collaboration:
Prioritizes tasks in the best interest of patients, collaborating with team members.

Assists in training new staff and students, providing support and guidance in their learning.

Participates in departmental huddles, staff meetings, and required training sessions.

Regularly checks communications for important updates relevant to responsibilities.

Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent.

Proficient in reading, writing, comprehending, and speaking fluent English.

Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity.

Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

Customer and patient-focused approach.

Basic understanding of computer systems utilized in analyzers, Sunquest, and EPIC.

Exhibits critical thinking skills and independent judgment in decision-making.

Demonstrates knowledge of computer programs for patient identification, registration, order, and sample tracking.

Understands the importance of patient and workplace safety, actively preventing errors, accidents, and infections, and reporting any concerns immediately.
