Position Overview:
The Department of Pathology is in search of a Clinical Laboratory Specialist, responsible for executing a range of procedures that involve intricate analytical laboratory testing methodologies. This role entails performing both quantitative and qualitative analyses on biological samples, including blood, tissue, and bodily fluids. The successful candidate will employ a variety of complex techniques that necessitate professional judgment to provide critical technical expertise and information essential for diagnosing, preventing, or treating diseases.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position on the 3rd shift, with hours from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Wednesday through Wednesday, allowing for six days off between work weeks. There may be potential for on-call duties in the future.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive and process blood samples, including managing incoming blood shipments and preparing blood components.
  • Dispense and return blood components as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of all transactions.
  • Conduct ABO/Rh antibody screening and identification tests following established protocols.
  • Perform compatibility testing in accordance with pre-transfusion guidelines.
  • Engage in additional projects and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:
For Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT):
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution, or
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency (NCA), or
  • Completion of a military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration, with a military occupational specialty as a Medical Laboratory Specialist.

For Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS):
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution is required.
  • Six months to one year of clinical laboratory experience, which may include training experience, is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or a categorical/specialist certification in the appropriate laboratory discipline from ASCP is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Experience in transfusion medicine is preferred.

The salary for the Medical Lab Technician position starts at $48,500, while the Medical Lab Scientist position starts at $53,500, with compensation commensurate with education and experience.
