Job Summary

Nationwide is seeking a highly skilled Senior Trial Attorney to join our team. As a key member of our Legal team, you will be responsible for representing clients in complex property and casualty insurance defense cases.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently handle cases as lead counsel, demonstrating exceptional trial advocacy skills and efficiency in case management.
  • Collaborate with support staff and other attorneys to ensure effective case management and efficiency.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in the law, technology, and local rules, and apply this knowledge to develop and implement effective litigation strategies.
  • Provide factually and legally sound opinions on case valuations, and communicate these to clients and claims partners in a timely and effective manner.
  • Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with key associates, claims partners, and colleagues within the legal and insurance industries.
  • Utilize relationships to build and improve Nationwide's reputation and expand case referral opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, claims partners, and internal stakeholders, identifying and meeting their needs and expectations.
  • Serve as a mentor for junior attorneys and staff, providing guidance, training, and coaching.
Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license in the state where the position is located.
  • More than eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
  • Significant litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation, with a strong understanding of complex legal practices and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff and other attorneys.
  • Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to process information efficiently and effectively.
  • Excellent analytical and legal skills, with the ability to adapt to changes in the law and technology.
  • Strong time management and organization skills, with the ability to prioritize and coordinate complex projects and cases.
  • Leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, problem-solve, and develop business strengthening and development with colleagues, clients, and claims partners.
