The Hennepin County Attorney's Office is seeking a highly skilled Senior Attorney to join our team. As a key member of our division, you will be responsible for evaluating the performance of assigned professional legal staff, participating in the selection and transfers of unit staff, and recommending and participating in merit and disciplinary decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate the performance of assigned professional legal staff and make recommendations regarding their selection and transfers.
  • Use assigned caseload to demonstrate and teach legal skills to junior attorneys.
  • Allocate resources and establish policies, procedures, and priorities within the work unit consistent with office and divisional objectives.
  • Schedule staff, monitor caseloads, and ensure equitable distribution of work.
  • Maintain liaison with the courts and other public agencies as it relates to their assigned work unit.
  • Interpret and communicate management objectives to staff in work units.
Requirements
  • Admission to the Bar of the State of Minnesota.
  • Four years or more of experience as a practicing attorney, two of which must have been in the field of public law.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in criminal prosecution, litigation, and civil counsel (advisory or transactional) or other field appropriate to the position.
  • Demonstrating leadership and/or management skills.
  • Knowledge of local laws and ordinances, established precedents, and legal reference sources.
  • The principles, methods, and practices of legal research and investigation.
  • Judicial procedures and the rules of evidence.
  • Pleading and practicing of effective presentation of court cases.
