We are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to oversee our operations across Alabama. This position will entail significant travel, approximately 30% or more.

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical Engineering and Project Management. Under the guidance of a Senior Engineer, deliver Electrical Engineering and Project Management services for Vulcan Materials Company, addressing all electrical initiatives, repairs, and preventive maintenance, with a progressive increase in responsibilities as you gain experience.

Vendor Interaction. Serve as a technical liaison with suppliers concerning equipment and facility designs, as well as product applications.

Technical Support. Provide essential technical support to operational staff as required. Ensure that all electrical installations, repairs, and preventive maintenance tasks are performed safely and accurately. Collaborate with major power suppliers on matters related to electrical distribution and supply systems.

Project Oversight. Under the direction of a Senior Engineer, manage the electrical aspects of projects throughout all stages, including planning, design, construction, and maintenance. Contribute to the electrical components of projects such as plant design, modifications, and structures, providing estimates, schedules, electrical schematics, functional descriptions, and other necessary documentation.

Planning and Design Assistance. Collaborate with both internal and external electrical engineers in the planning and design of electrical and automation systems, including setting equipment selection criteria. Offer internal consulting to plant management regarding the application of automation systems to enhance productivity and reduce costs. Provide guidance in troubleshooting electrical issues within the plant.

Resource Assessment. Evaluate needs and available internal resources to accomplish required tasks, coordinating the engagement of external contractors as necessary.

Mentorship. Guide and instruct the regional electrical team to ensure adherence to safety and best practices in all facets of electrical systems, including design, construction, and testing.

Required Qualifications:

Education. A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field is required.

Experience. A minimum of 5 to 10 years of electrical experience in mining, heavy industry, utilities, or a similar sector is essential. Experience in designing and managing construction projects related to various power distribution types is preferred (both overhead and underground).

Technical Skills. Familiarity with PLCs, Soft Starts, and VFDs is advantageous. Experience with Power System Analysis Software (PTW, ETAP) and designing motor control systems is preferred. Experience in hiring and supervising electrical contractors, as well as managing small to large-scale electrical projects, is required.

Other Competencies. Proficient computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, AutoCAD). A strong understanding of mining production techniques and equipment is preferred. In-depth knowledge of safety and environmental regulations (NEC, NESC, MSHA, and OSHA) is essential. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to effectively plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously, are necessary.
