Internal Medicine Physician - Oncology Specialist (Open Rank/Track Faculty)

Department:

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center are seeking to enhance the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology. Academic rank and track will be determined based on academic achievements and experience.

Position Overview

The role involves a physician specializing in Melanoma, serving as a vital member of the Division of Medical Oncology within the Department of Internal Medicine. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing comprehensive patient care in both inpatient and outpatient environments.
  • Conducting ambulatory clinics and performing thorough patient assessments.
  • Executing relevant oncology procedures and managing diagnostic testing.
  • Formulating and implementing treatment plans while documenting all services in the medical record.
  • Educating patients and promoting wellness and prevention through resources and services.
  • Engaging in quality assessment and improvement initiatives.
  • Mentoring residents, fellows, medical students, and nursing staff in oncology practices.
  • Participating in departmental and university committees.

Department/Division Overview

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center has expanded significantly, becoming one of the largest cancer hospitals in the U.S. This growth has created numerous opportunities for medical oncologists specializing in various solid tumor subspecialties, particularly in Melanoma.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • 5%: Ensure continuing medical education requirements are fulfilled and participate in departmental committees.
  • 5%: Provide mentorship and training to medical professionals in oncology.
  • 5%: Engage in quality improvement activities.
  • 85%: Deliver direct and indirect patient care, manage clinical responsibilities, and maintain communication with referring physicians.

Requirements

Required qualifications include a Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), completion of an accredited Oncology/Hematology Fellowship, and Board Certification in Internal Medicine. Candidates must also be board eligible or certified in Medical Oncology and meet medical licensure requirements.
