Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Part-Time Custodian to join our team at The Salvation Army Central Territory. As a Custodian, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our clients and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • **Cleaning and Maintenance**: Clean and maintain assigned areas, including hallways, common areas, bathrooms, showers, dorms, offices, and other facilities.
  • **Trash and Recycling**: Empty and change trash cans, throw out trash, and maintain a clean and organized environment.
  • **Supervision**: Supervise volunteers assigned to assist with job duties and ensure they are following proper procedures.
  • **Communication**: Consult with supervisors on the proper use of cleaning supplies, daily work assignments, and Harbor Light Policies and Procedures.
  • **Teamwork**: Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with volunteers, co-workers, and supervisors.
Requirements
  • **Education**: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • **Experience**: Preferred six (6) months of practical work experience in high volume housekeeping/janitorial experience.
  • **Skills**: Ability to take directions, adapt to a fast-paced environment, stand on feet all day, lift 50 pounds, and demonstrate sensitivity to issues of homelessness, chemical addiction, and unemployment.
  • **Certifications**: Must be able to pass background checks, including a MVR if driving required, and pre-employment drug test.
Working Conditions

The duties and responsibilities of this position cannot be performed from home. There are normally no hazardous or significantly unpleasant physical working conditions, with the exception of occasional emotional distress or turmoil.

Physical and Mental Demands
  • **Physical Strength**: Exerts up to 30 pounds of force occasionally.
  • **Visual Abilities**: Average, ordinary, visual activity necessary to prepare or inspect documents.
  • **Mental Activities**: Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization.
Language and Communication

Ability to fluently speak, read, and write in English. Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis.
