About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Aerospace Technician to join our team at Blue Origin. As an Aerospace Technician, you will be responsible for the assembly, testing, and maintenance of rocket engines and components. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems and a commitment to quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble and test rocket engines and components with precision and accuracy
  • Perform nitrogen and helium leak testing to ensure the integrity of the engine
  • Conduct hydraulic testing for valve actuation to ensure proper function
  • Inspect components to ensure they meet tight tolerances
  • Use borescope inspection to examine rocket engines and identify any issues
  • Set up new production work areas, including tooling and equipment
  • Assist with the transition from development to production, including the first articles
  • Perform second-party verifications and hardware inspections of engineering models, drawings, specifications, and written procedures
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions, and implement corrective actions
  • Safely work with hazardous systems, chemicals, and high-pressure operations
  • Identify non-conformances and escapes, and deploy corrective actions
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurrence control
  • Operate various material handling equipment, including forklifts, overhead cranes, and aerial lifts
  • Setup and operate precision calibrated tools, including torque wrenches, micrometers, and calipers
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for area safety and efficiency
  • Perform routine maintenance functions, including daily clean-up of work areas
  • Work off-shift, extended hours overtime, and weekends as necessary
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of mechanical experience in aerospace manufacturing, integration, or a related field
  • Experience in at least one of the following: jet engine maintenance/assembly, rocket engine maintenance/assembly, or engine test operations
  • Experience with precision and tight tolerance assembly
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, and written work instructions
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Basic computer skills, including Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs and work in small, restricted areas
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Desired Qualifications
  • Industry certification, trade school training, or a degree in a related field
  • Demonstrated success as a hands-on technical leader
  • Experience working in a fast-paced dynamic team environment with rapidly changing roles and responsibilities
  • Continuous improvement mindset and ability to optimize processes
  • Intense curiosity for understanding the details of our business
  • Experience handling large aerospace components and assembling tight-tolerance structures
  • Experience in new product introduction and team-based Lean Manufacturing environments
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification
  • Ability to lift heavy items up to 50lbs
  • Military experience
