The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist II - Immune Effector Cell (IEC) plays a pivotal role in delivering clinical pharmacy services to patients within an Immune Effector Cell clinic. This position involves close collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and pharmacists to ensure comprehensive care for outpatients.
The responsibilities of the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist II-IEC include:
- Counseling patients initiating new intravenous and/or oral antineoplastics.
- Conducting clinical assessments and adherence checks for patients undergoing active therapy.
- Providing drug information and reviewing chemotherapy orders for select providers before patient infusion.
- Assisting with drug access initiatives.
This role is primarily onsite, with the possibility of remote work limited to one day per week, and only for candidates residing in New England states.

Key Responsibilities
- Practice as a pharmacist in accordance with all relevant policies, regulations, and standards.
- Ensure the appropriateness, accuracy, and completeness of medication orders based on patient-specific parameters.
- Provide clinical consultation and evidence-based recommendations for treatment plans, dose adjustments, and monitoring strategies.
- Collaborate with the pharmacy and interdisciplinary teams during patient care meetings.
- Deliver comprehensive education to patients and caregivers regarding oncology therapies.
- Document clinical activities in the electronic health record and communicate care plan changes effectively.
- Engage in scholarly and educational activities, including in-services and clinical research.
- Participate in clinical administrative duties, including formulary requests and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and educational materials to enhance program effectiveness.
Qualifications
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist II-IEC must fulfill the following criteria:
- Education: A Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited institution.
- Experience: Completion of a PGY2 residency in a relevant specialty or a PGY1 residency plus two years of clinical specialist experience, or five years of clinical specialist experience in areas such as oncology or palliative care.
- Licensure: Must hold a valid pharmacy license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and achieve board certification in the specialty area within 18 months of employment.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Proficiency in utilizing technology necessary for job functions.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changes in a dynamic work environment.
- Critical thinking skills to assess drug therapeutic appropriateness based on clinical data.
- Capability to resolve common issues within the scope of practice and escalate when necessary.
