**Job Summary**

General Dynamics NASSCO is a leading provider of ship construction, repair, and maintenance services. We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic J-1 to join our team in Norfolk, Virginia.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Ensure safe working conditions by verifying hot work tickets and checking for any changes in tank/compartment conditions.
  • Verify Work Authorization Forms (WAF) are posted on the job site and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Perform tasks safely and efficiently, maintaining quality control at all times.
  • Assist in the assembly of ventilation runs and installation of metal joiner (MJ) bulkheads, MJ doors, berths, galleys, and office outfitting.
  • Repair sheet metal products related to Shipboard construction HVAC and habitability.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Perform job safely and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Navigate a ship and understand compartment designation.
  • Apply basic math skills as needed.

**Requirements**

  • Basic understanding of mechanical drawings, layout, assembly, installation, and repair of sheet metal products.
  • Knowledge of power and manual equipment, including press brake, hand brake, power rollers, hand rollers, punch press, drill press, and hand tools.
  • Familiarity with various types of metals and sizes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
