Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for an Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 2 for the Enology & Viticulture program at the Walla Walla campus.

General Responsibilities:
This position will have primary responsibility for supporting instruction in Enology and Viticulture classes. This position will assist in individualized and/or group instruction of students in development of learning skills. This individual will work directly with faculty to prepare, modify and develop instructional resources to support hands-on laboratory style curriculum and conduct lab demonstrations within the vineyard and the winery. This position will operate and maintain vineyard and laboratory equipment and conduct pesticide application. This position will report directly to the Vineyard Manager/Cellar Master.

Essential Functions:

Support instructional process through assistance in classroom and lab setting. Possess and display a passion for students and their academic and professional success.
  • Assist department instructors in classroom and lab teaching environment
  • Support student learning
  • Monitor work environment for potential hazards
  • Manage grape receiving and preparation for instruction
  • Ensure cellar preparation and cleanliness
  • Assist students in laboratory analysis and completion of laboratory assignments
  • Conduct laboratory demonstrations
  • Assist in establishing and developing assignments
Assist in field and cellar work with the vineyard and teaching winery
  • Assist instructors in classroom and lab teaching environment including assistance with harvesting, pest management, and irrigation.
  • Support in the management of grape receiving and pick up
  • Support student learning
  • Monitor student work environment for hazards
  • Operate vineyard and winery equipment and assist in training students in the safe and efficient operation of vineyard and winery equipment
  • Apply advised and specified pest control or plant support materials to the vineyard in a safe manner and in accordance with state and federal guidelines
  • Perform routine maintenance on vineyard and laboratory equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and supervisor instructions.
Prepare and break down classroom lab sessions
  • Manage inventory related to laboratory classroom instruction placing orders to replenish stock as needed
  • Prepare classroom set up with appropriate equipment for each lab
  • Clean laboratory after class in preparation for next session

Required Qualifications:
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.
  • AAAS in Enology and Viticulture Degree or related field required. Industry experience may substitute for education at the discretion of the college.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications
  • Winery, vineyard or manufacturing experience including exposure to state and federal safety regulations desired.
  • Entrepreneurial experience desired
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Conditions/Terms of Employment

This classified position is in a bargaining unit for which WPEA Higher Ed is the exclusive representative.

This position typically works 40 hours per week Monday-Friday, unless otherwise prearranged with supervisor. Winery & Vineyard setting working with large equipment and motorized vehicles, chemicals and pesticides used in vineyard and winery setting. Must be physically able to lift and relocate 50 lbs., Must be able work for extended periods of time while walking/standing. Experience using juice processing equipment including, but not limited to, pumps, presses, forklifts, spray application equipment and other heavy equipment such as tractors, trucks, and winery/vineyard equipment. Forklift certification will need be to obtained within 6 months of hire; pesticide licensing within 6 months of hire, and MAST permit within 1 month of hire. There may be some local travel as needed for grape pick up or professional development. Customer interactions will primarily be with students and winery customers.

The college has an excellent benefit program including medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance; paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; and retirement plan. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP) unless declined at time of hire. WWCC requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary. The college is tobacco free.
