School Nurse

The Alief Independent School District is seeking a skilled School Nurse to join our team. As a School Nurse, you will be responsible for providing healthcare services to students, including health assessments, medication administration, and developing individualized healthcare plans.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with disabilities, including those who are medically fragile.
- Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures.
- Conduct health assessments, including screenings for health factors impacting student education.
- Provide acuity assessments for students with disabilities to determine recommendations for ARD/IEP/health plans.
- Maintain, evaluate, and interpret cumulative health data, including IEP-related documents.
- Coordinate, compile, and submit documentation required for local, state, and federal compliance reporting.
- Utilize equipment and technology for the delivery of healthcare services.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and stay abreast of current laws, trends, and best practices related to supplemental nursing and school health services.
- Provide First Aid/CPR/AED as needed.
- Assist in the formation of health policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for the school district.
- Provide chronic disease management and education, including ventilator care, gastrostomy feedings, tracheostomy care, catheterizations, etc.
- Assist special education teachers with IEP implementation of special education students as needed.
- Attend ARD/IEP meetings as needed.
- Maintain current clinical skills and competence.
- Associate's degree from an accredited professional nursing education program.
- Bachelor's degree of Science in Nursing from an accredited professional nursing education program, preferred.
- Valid registered nurse license from the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
- Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience in community health, ambulatory care, school health, or other related fields.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse, preferred.
The School Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment, providing healthcare services to students with varying needs. The position requires frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. The School Nurse may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights (up to 45 pounds) and assist non-ambulatory students. The position also requires working with frequent interruptions and maintaining emotional control under stress.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThe School Nurse may have supervisory responsibilities over the licensed vocational nurse (LVN) and assigned health clinic aide(s).
EvaluationPerformance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Nursing Personnel.
Salary and BenefitsThe salary for this position is $62,995/BA, $63,495/MA, $63,995/PHD (based on previous experience). The position is a 190-day contract, with salary based on working 190 days.
