This role is with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The Compliance team operates within IT Transmission Systems & Compliance, focusing on the development, sustainability, and consistency of programs related to NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Sarbanes-Oxley - Information Technology General Controls (SOx ITGCs), FERC, and other compliance initiatives to fulfill regulatory obligations and mitigate risks.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong data analysis and problem-solving capabilities, possess a thorough understanding of business processes, and have a solid foundation in Compliance (e.g., CIP, FERC, SOx). The successful applicant will be adept at creating and adhering to detailed work plans while coordinating efforts across various business units to meet compliance timelines. Exceptional writing skills are crucial for documenting compliance evidence effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to North American Reliability Corporation (NERC) CIP Standards by providing guidance to support risk management, Cyber, Information, Physical, and Personnel Security initiatives.
  • Maintain policies, programs, procedures, and guidelines related to NERC CIP Standards.
  • Assist in testing efforts for Regulatory Access Authorization Database (RAAD) releases, including identifying potential issues with integrated systems.
  • Leverage FE technology (e.g., RAAD, Contractor Information Management System (CIMS), QlikView, Sensitive Data Tracking) for data analysis and compliance tracking.
  • Conduct quarterly access reconciliations and ensure security awareness and appropriate separations and transfer processes, documenting evidence to support these activities.
  • Manage the content of CIP Policies, Programs, and Procedures on SharePoint as needed.
  • Investigate and document root cause analyses of compliance issues to identify non-compliance risks and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Utilize strong technical expertise and knowledge of IT Systems.

Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in IT or Compliance (e.g., CIP, SOx, FERC) with a focus on internal controls to meet regulatory standards.
  • Proficient in data analytics and exception reporting for compliance assessments.
  • Strong skills in analytical tools, including QlikView and Excel.
  • Excellent communication abilities to effectively present findings in both written and verbal formats.
  • Capability to write at a professional and technical level to ensure clarity across varying knowledge levels.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to research, assess, and document compliance findings.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Experience with IT general controls, including change management and Cyber Security policies.
  • Background in developing, implementing, and auditing controls to meet NERC CIP requirements.
  • Experience in preparing documentation for audits.
  • Collaborate with business units to address compliance issues, recommending improvements and remediation plans.
  • Support compliance audits conducted by internal teams, consultants, or regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate compliance self-certification activities.
  • Lead cross-functional projects to establish unified processes and implement controls for cohesive compliance programs.
  • Conduct peer reviews of evidence and mentor team members.
