The role involves adhering to various procedural standards, including data collection, insurance verification, service authorizations, and managing patient financial responsibilities, including any outstanding balances. The Healthcare Access team is vital in securing the financial viability of patient services while ensuring compliance with federal regulations, accreditation standards, and health department guidelines. This position requires direct communication with patients, families, healthcare providers, insurance entities, and third-party payers. Professional demeanor, effective communication, and strong organizational skills are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
• Accurately enters all necessary data for scheduling and registration, including patient demographics, financial details, guarantor information, and pertinent notes related to the encounter.
• Confirms insurance eligibility and secures required authorizations for provided services.
• Computes and collects the estimated patient financial responsibility based on insurance benefits and prior balances.
• Conducts financial assessments to determine eligibility for assistance programs.
• Clearly communicates the purpose of and secures patient/legal guardian signatures on all essential hospital documentation.
• Represents the Healthcare Access department with professionalism and courtesy at all times.
• Assists the hospital during internal or external emergencies as needed.
• Adapts to the department's needs to manage patient volume across various hospital areas, which may involve reassignment or shift changes.
• Contributes to achieving departmental performance goals.
• Completes mandatory training and ongoing education as required.
• Upholds team discipline by adhering to established standard operating procedures.
• Collaborates with High-Performance Work Teams (HPWT) to maintain an efficient, organized, and clean work environment following 5S principles.
• Coordinates and monitors workflow to manage varying patient volumes effectively.
• Provides constructive feedback to the team to identify educational and mediation needs by reporting issues, problems, and opportunities.
• Demonstrates the ability to perform assigned duties in a manner that meets the specific needs of the diverse patient population served by the department.
• Adjusts assessment, treatment, and service methods to cater to the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs of each patient.
• Takes personal accountability to ensure compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and standards set forth by regulatory agencies and the hospital.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and refrains from disclosing any sensitive information unless necessary for job performance.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills

Experience
