Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Treatment Planning: Conduct thorough assessments of patients' respiratory care needs and develop and implement effective treatment plans.
  • Diagnostic Testing and Therapeutic Interventions: Apply diagnostic testing and therapeutic plans with skill and insight to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Documentation and Communication: Accurately document patient care according to professional standards and departmental guidelines, and communicate patient responses to respiratory therapy interventions to healthcare team members.
  • Quality and Professional Development: Embrace quality by participating in quality improvement initiatives, applying standard procedures and protocols, and documenting patient care according to professional standards.
  • Precepting and Education: Precept new learners and students, and participate in professional development through formal education, certification, and internal/external learning opportunities.
  • Technology and Innovation: Demonstrate innovative application of technologies that support patient care, and actively participate in the implementation of evidence-based practice and new knowledge generated by respiratory research.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy educational program, with an Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy required and a Bachelor degree in Respiratory Therapy preferred.
  • Experience: 3 years of acute/critical care Respiratory Therapy full-time work experience if baccalaureate prepared, or 5 years of acute/critical care Respiratory Therapy full-time work experience if associate prepared.
  • Licensure: Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required, and licensed to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Physical Demands

The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent travel, and bending/stooping. The successful candidate will also be proficient in communicative, auditory, and visual skills, with attention to detail and the ability to write legibly.
