We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Aerospace Engineer to join our team at the Universities Space Research Association (USRA). As a key member of our research team, you will play a critical role in supporting aeronautics research within the Aviation Systems Division at NASA Ames Research Center.

Job Summary

The Senior Aerospace Engineer will work on a collaborative team to research, develop, and test solutions to enable the use of remotely piloted aircraft for wildfire management. You will be responsible for developing research concepts and prototype software that provides autonomous Air Traffic Management (ATM) services to all types of airspace users, ensuring safe integration of autonomous vehicles into the National Airspace System.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and development of advanced air traffic control and management automation concepts.
  • Engage with NASA teams and partners on requirements development and systems design for aviation simulation and prototype demonstration systems.
  • Lead system development for ACERO and produce system performance metrics, measures of effectiveness, and measures of performance.
  • Develop the data management strategy and architecture, including identifying data collection needs, data models, and requirements.
  • Interact with senior researchers, customers, and other project engineers to develop and execute research plans.
  • Conduct system performance assessments and prepare presentations and reports as required.
Requirements
  • PhD degree in Aeronautics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in aerospace engineering, data engineering, or simulation and modeling of dynamic systems.
  • Expertise in scripting languages like Python and MATLAB, databases like NoSQL and SQL, and proficiency in Java, C/C++.
  • Experience with Atlassian tools, Confluence, Git, Jira, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated excellence in a related research and development environment and a sustained record of academic publications.
Working Conditions

The work will be performed in an office or computer lab environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk, or hear. Keyboarding for large time spans each day will be a significant part of this position.

Travel

The employee must be willing and able to travel. Position may require infrequent domestic business travel.
