Position Overview:
The MES (Manufacturing Execution System) Programmer II plays a critical role in overseeing the infrastructure, controls, and automation systems across multiple facilities. This position serves as the solution architect, aligning system capabilities with operational requirements to ensure optimal technical execution. The role entails providing technical leadership and coordination in the design, development, and deployment of sophisticated industrial applications, databases, and information systems within a manufacturing context.
The MES Programmer II is expected to evolve into a technical expert with a solid understanding of project management principles, mentoring abilities, and commercial acumen. Responsibilities include supporting all phases of MES projects, such as requirements gathering, detailed design, development, commissioning, documentation, and user training. Collaboration with IT teams is essential to maintain existing systems and develop long-term technology and automation strategies across the organization.
Educational Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in process control, automation, software development, or IT management related to manufacturing execution systems and/or manufacturing intelligence tools.
- Familiarity with industrial automation, project management, and lean manufacturing principles.
- Proficient in gathering requirements, designing, and configuring manufacturing execution systems and interfaces with enterprise resource planning systems.
- Strong programming and debugging skills, particularly in Visual Basic.NET, C#, and SQL.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail and a willingness to learn new technologies rapidly.
- Experience working successfully in a matrix organization with a focus on customer service and personnel development.
- Proven ability to interact effectively at various levels of responsibility within a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated success in a collaborative team setting.
- Experience interfacing ERP systems with automation technologies.
- Preferred experience with MES API scripting and MS SQL Server, including SSRS.
- Experience in .NET development (Visual Basic/C# preferred) and working in a plant environment with machine controls and automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the architecture and implementation of Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and system integration projects.
- Develop a roadmap for comprehensive data automation at the machine level and prepare for integration with ERP systems.
- Create automated protocols to enhance planning and scheduling processes, ensuring raw material visibility and assignment.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to eliminate redundant data entry and automate data input processes.
- Install and configure data collection systems to gather and organize manufacturing data.
- Design, develop, and deploy manufacturing intelligence tools to analyze data captured by MES and other systems.
- Utilize process re-engineering techniques to identify bottlenecks and optimize existing processes.
- Understand and optimize Bill of Materials (BOMs) and routings.
- Design and implement custom software components to meet project specifications.
- Develop platforms for data extraction from various datasets.
- Engage with key business contacts to enhance the shop floor data collection process.
- Work closely with Manufacturing & Operations Leadership to comprehend business needs.
- Partner with Engineering to facilitate the transition to an automated manufacturing environment.
- Oversee technical architecture and design efforts, including developer code reviews.
- Promote a collaborative team atmosphere, working alongside IT and business teams to develop and deliver new capabilities.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Adhere to safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Familiarize yourself with departmental Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Demonstrate a commitment to sustainability as outlined by Interface.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
