Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Engineer to join our team at BDI Bridge Diagnostics. As a key member of our engineering staff, you will be responsible for planning and implementing Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) programs on various structure types, including dams, bridges, and buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop testing plans and documents to meet project requirements and scope
  • Work closely with project managers on project coordination, planning, and logistics
  • Making engineering decisions while on job sites to ensure safe and effective field deployment
  • Update documents and photos upon project completion and provide lessons learned to the team
  • Review and interpret project data to draw conclusions and report to clients
  • Assist analysis teams with project deliverables through project reports and findings
  • Use various design codes to compute structural capacities and allowable serviceability limit states

On-Site NDE Investigation:

  • Lead field projects as site supervisor to ensure work quality and safety
  • Coordinate travel and equipment logistics for team members
  • Follow and execute project plans on budget and on time
  • Consistently evaluate processes and procedures and recommend cost-saving and process improvement ideas
  • Review or complete client-facing documentation (submittals, daily field logs, work plans, etc.)
  • Ensure adherence to project specifications and contractual requirements
  • Perform data collection, in-field interpretation, and in-field QAQC on various nondestructive techniques, including ultrasonic, electromagnetic, and chemical techniques on various materials (steel, concrete, and timber)
  • Perform material collection for subsequent material testing, including concrete cores, powder samples, or other sample types as required by the project scope
  • Use professional judgment on site to collect supplementary information related to the NDE investigation through visual inspection, including notes, photographs, and sketches
  • Troubleshoot and fix malfunctioning instruments
  • Work in various conditions, including working at heights, overnight shifts, and in all types of weather conditions

Project Support:

  • Travel to select field projects to perform NDE field investigations as needed
  • Other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 1-3 years of relevant engineering experience (NDE, inspection, and/or analysis)
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) required or ability to obtain EIT within 6 months of hire
  • Willing to travel (50% + field work) and conduct field work
  • SPRAT L1 Certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable record to drive company vehicles preferred

Benefits and Compensation:

We offer a competitive salary range of $72,500 - $90,000 per year, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, paid holidays, 401k with company match, company-paid life, AD&D, and disability insurance, medical insurance, dental and vision coverage, and more.
