Job Overview

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to enhance our engineering team. This position will involve collaboration with technicians, clients, and fellow engineers on various projects within our Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Program. Responsibilities will encompass the planning and execution of NDE programs across diverse structures such as dams, bridges, and buildings, along with client coordination, equipment selection, field testing, data interpretation, analysis, and report preparation. This role offers a unique opportunity to grow within a professional consulting environment, benefiting from mentorship by experienced technical staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Duties:

  • Formulate testing plans and documentation to align with project objectives and scope.
  • Collaborate closely with the Project Manager on project organization, planning, and logistics.
  • Make informed engineering decisions on-site to guarantee safe and effective field operations.
  • Update documentation and photographs post-project completion, sharing insights with the team.
  • Analyze and interpret project data to draw conclusions for client reporting.
  • Support the analysis team with project deliverables through comprehensive reports and findings.
  • Utilize various design codes to compute structural capacities and assess serviceability limits.

Field NDE Investigation:

  • Lead field projects as the site supervisor, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
  • Coordinate travel and equipment logistics for team members effectively.
  • Adhere to project plans, ensuring budget compliance and timely execution.
  • Continuously assess processes and suggest cost-saving and improvement strategies.
  • Review or prepare client-facing documentation such as submittals, daily logs, and work plans.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications and contractual obligations.
  • Conduct data collection and in-field interpretation using various nondestructive techniques, including ultrasonic and electromagnetic methods on materials like steel, concrete, and timber.
  • Collect materials for subsequent testing, including concrete cores and powder samples as dictated by project requirements.
  • Employ professional judgment to gather supplementary information through visual inspections, including notes and sketches.
  • Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning instruments as necessary.
  • Work in diverse conditions, including heights, overnight shifts, and various weather scenarios.

Project Support:

  • Travel to designated field projects to conduct NDE investigations as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on project needs.

Qualifications for Success:

  • Fundamental experience with NDE or NDT techniques, projects, or analysis.
  • Willingness to learn and comprehend the operation and principles of various NDE techniques, applying them to field investigations.
  • A degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Geophysical Engineering.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and familiar with other software and programming tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills suitable for diverse audiences.
  • Strong understanding of civil infrastructure materials, structural assemblies, and deterioration processes.
  • Skilled in using various hand and power tools.
  • Experience in operating machinery.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 1-3 years of relevant engineering experience (NDE, inspection, and/or analysis).
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) certification required or the ability to obtain it within six months of employment.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (50%+ field work) and engage in field activities.
  • SPRAT L1 Certification or the willingness to obtain it within six months of employment.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Range: $72,500 - $90,000 annually.
