Job Summary

MedStar Health is seeking a skilled Diagnostic Imaging Specialist to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in transverse and cross-sectional anatomical and pathological presentations, as well as technical operations associated with ultrasound modalities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform ultrasound examinations in accordance with established protocols, as requested by referring physicians and as directed by radiologists.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures related to the performance of obtaining ultrasound studies, including performing correct exams, including laterality, on correct patients at the time requested.
  • Report initial impressions to radiologists and review images before releasing patients.
  • Ensure timely completion of all exams through tracking, scanning, and other technical workflow as related to Radiology Information System (RIS), Enterprise Radiology Solutions (ERS), and Enterprise Electronic Record (EMR).
  • Provide basic information to patients and/or families concerning procedures to be performed and answer questions if asked.
  • Coordinate patient flow on assigned units to maximize productivity and minimize patient waiting times.
  • Coordinate, communicate, and collaborate with Patient Financial Associates to minimize delays and potential safety issues for the outpatient population.
  • Prepare exam rooms at the beginning of each shift and between assigned cases, and coordinate with Technical Aides to ensure efficient room turnover.
  • Assist with the upkeep of ultrasound equipment, adhere to all related safety requirements, and report any need for equipment repairs.
  • Clean equipment and work areas, wipe down assigned equipment between cases, and stock and maintain supplies at identified inventory levels.
  • Assist the technical supervisor in the revision, development, and implementation of lab policies, in-service programs, and continuing educational programs that enhance individual technologists' performance and skills.
Requirements
  • Must have completed training in an approved Ultrasound program.
  • As part of their education, candidates must also demonstrate competency in didactic coursework and an ARRT-specified list of clinical procedures by completing competency requirements established for the discipline in which they are seeking certification and registration.
  • ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography) or ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) certification is required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is also required.
  • 1-2 years of hospital-based experience is preferred.
  • Skills in operating various models of ultrasound and instructing others in proper use are preferred.
