Ultrasound Technologist Job Description

Howard University Hospital is seeking a skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team. As an Ultrasound Technologist, you will be responsible for using ultrasound equipment to capture high-quality images of patients' bodies, providing direct patient care, and summarizing and documenting images and findings for physicians.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Use ultrasound equipment to direct high-frequency sound waves to a prescribed area of the patient's body and capture quality images.
  • Provide direct patient care, including assessing patient condition and ability to cooperate, positioning patients and equipment, and monitoring and recording vital signs.
  • Summarize, document, verify, and present images, findings, calculations, and measurements to physicians for diagnoses.
  • Adhere to ultrasonic diagnostic procedures, precautions, and standards.
  • Prepare rooms and patients for subsequent ultrasound procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services.
  • Verify operational status of equipment prior to daily utilization.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities to ensure continuous improvement of services.
  • Follow hospital-wide and department-specific safety and infection control standards.
Requirements:
  • Associates Degree (AA) in Radiology or equivalent from a two-year college or hospital-based program.
  • Two (2) years' experience in Ultrasound desired.
  • ARDMS and BLS certification required. Certification in General, Vascular, and OBGYN desired.
