Special Education Instructor

The Special Education Instructor role is a grant-supported position dedicated to guiding, inspiring, and teaching high school students with special needs within the framework of the company's educational model. This role emphasizes the importance of each student's Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) and Individual Educational Plan (IEP). All courses offered are in alignment with state educational standards and are designed to actively engage students in their learning journey, promoting credit accumulation through a mastery-based educational approach, with the instructor serving as both a supporter and educator.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create a collaborative and student-focused learning environment that aligns with the academic objectives of the company and the specific IEP goals of special education students.
- Implement instructional best practices and necessary modifications tailored for special education students.
- Ensure adherence to the established Standard Operating Model.
- Demonstrate effective classroom management techniques.
- Maintain thorough documentation of student performance and diagnostic data analysis.
- Schedule and conduct regular small group intervention sessions.
- Document participation in data-driven professional development for staff.
- Maintain accurate attendance records in compliance with district, state, and national professional development requirements.
- Log communications and collaboration efforts with students, parents, and school stakeholders.
- Monitor and report on student assessment scores, aiming for an 80% improvement rate among special education students.
- Ensure that all student records are current and compliant with progress monitoring and IEP requirements.
- Facilitate leadership in the Response to Intervention (RtI) process.
- Timely report on students needing academic support through the RtI framework.
- Provide guidance and leadership within the school and classroom by demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the needs of special education students and effective instructional practices.
- Assist students in utilizing strategies in their designated subject areas.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques to support special education students across all levels.
- Evaluate and assess the academic needs of special education students through IEP documentation and progress monitoring.
- Conduct data-driven small group interventions for subjects such as reading and math.
- Differentiate instruction based on student data, ensuring tailored strategies are implemented.
- Collaborate with advisory teachers and staff to enhance student achievement in assigned subjects.
- Set high expectations for student improvement and success.
- Participate in professional development focused on teaching methodologies.
- Act as a mentor and advocate for special education students, guiding them through their IGP and IEP.
- Maintain regular communication with students and parents, aligning with company goals.
- Ensure compliance with all aspects of the IEP through diligent documentation.
- Collaborate with staff to support IEP objectives.
- Keep accurate records of student progress, attendance, and behavioral data as required by regulatory guidelines.
- Audit student records to ensure compliance with company policies.
- Engage in collaborative efforts with peers to develop and implement effective educational practices tailored to individual student needs.
- Maintain professionalism and collegiality in the workplace.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain certification and credentials.
- Ensure up-to-date certification and endorsements.
- Align personal professional development plans with school improvement initiatives.
- Document participation in all required training and professional development activities.
- Support initiatives to meet defined enrollment and attendance objectives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in accordance with company policies to achieve educational goals.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education from an accredited institution is required.
- Valid Teacher's certification.
- Understanding of secondary education principles.
- Familiarity with curriculum and instructional theories.
- Ability to analyze and utilize data for program enhancement.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience working with at-risk youth is preferred.
