The Senior Underwriter plays a crucial role in evaluating and managing contract bonds in accordance with Markel Surety's underwriting principles. This position requires a thorough assessment of risk and effective risk management strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage relationships with significant agents and brokers.
- Achieve financial targets through exceptional service and retention of accounts.
- Evaluate risks with a tailored approach based on the business class.
- Engage in projects that influence overall business outcomes.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
- Develop and implement strategic sales plans, monitor outcomes, and make necessary adjustments.
- Conduct regular visits to agents to strengthen partnerships.
Qualifications:
- Preferred Bachelor's degree.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in an underwriting role.
- Strong understanding of contract and subdivision bond underwriting.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely.
- Focus on achieving profitable premium growth.
- Familiarity with the surety rate manual.
- Capable of making informed decisions and negotiating terms with minimal supervision.
- Proactive in overcoming challenges and taking responsibility for outcomes.
- Ability to mentor and guide junior staff.
