Overview
UnidosUS is seeking a proactive and seasoned Lead Manager, Nutrition and Food Security to spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing food and nutrition strategies through effective programs and policies.

The Lead Manager will be an integral part of the Health team, overseeing the management of the WIC CIAO project and promoting food and nutrition initiatives along with pertinent policy efforts.

This role is crucial in reinforcing UnidosUS's dedication to meaningful advocacy, particularly in significant reform discussions at various governmental levels, focusing on programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

The Lead Manager will be tasked with executing the newly established strategic direction, collaborating closely with the health policy team to perform research and policy evaluations, leading programmatic advocacy initiatives, managing financial resources, and fostering essential partnerships to facilitate positive transformations in food and nutrition programs and policies.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Health and works in tandem with the Health Policy team, Program Managers, and Program Specialists, including supervisory responsibilities to ensure the successful execution of program activities and timely delivery of all outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Oversight:
Assist in the implementation of strategic objectives to promote food and nutrition programs, practices, and policy goals aligned with the mission of UnidosUS. Evaluate the landscape and contribute to thought leadership to influence vital reform discussions at the national level, including:

  • Enhancing federal nutrition assistance programs;
  • Strengthening partnerships;
  • Improving food choices and expanding culturally relevant health education.

Demonstrate analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities to achieve excellence within a diverse and hybrid team.

Program Coordination:
Supervise the creation of program materials, including toolkits, educational resources, training modules, and culturally appropriate social media content. Organize and deliver effective in-person and virtual training sessions, technical assistance calls, and events to support UnidosUS Affiliates and subgrantees in launching and executing food and nutrition programs in local communities.

Identify and coordinate strategic support for Affiliate partners in program development, data collection, monitoring, evaluation, and program sustainability.

Provide expert guidance and technical assistance on food and nutrition security, health equity, and health promotion topics to program sites, fostering relationships with key stakeholders.

Ensure that deliverables are met, milestones are adhered to, and timelines are followed. Offer direct support in developing and updating contracts with subgrantees and consultants, managing payment requests, logistical coordination of project-related activities, and maintaining relevant project files.

Data Management and Evaluation:
Implement standardized data collection systems for program management and advocacy in collaboration with data and health analysts. Lead online technical assistance and professional development initiatives.

Provide guidance and data collection support to Affiliates to enhance program models, deliverables, and outcomes, ensuring compliance with contracts and scopes of work. Monitor program implementation and gather accountability, qualitative, and quantitative reports from participating sites.

Support the overall data and fiscal management of health programs and initiatives, collaborating with UnidosUS staff, program Affiliates, external evaluators, and consultants to conduct formal evaluations of select health programs.

Policy Research and Advocacy:
Work closely with the Health Policy and Advocacy team on research, analysis, and the development of advocacy strategies related to food and nutrition policy changes. Act as a spokesperson on relevant issues, effectively communicating UnidosUS's positions and needs to community organizations.

Budget Management and Fundraising:
Oversee the budget for food and nutrition initiatives, ensuring effective resource allocation and reporting with senior team members. Lead fundraising efforts, building relationships with foundations and potential donors to secure funding for program, policy, and research activities.

Relationship Development:
Establish and maintain strategic relationships with allies, partners, policymakers, and stakeholders to advance UnidosUS's food and nutrition agenda. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maximize impact.

Team Leadership:
Manage and evaluate a team dedicated to food and nutrition security programs. Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to ensure the team's success in achieving programmatic objectives.

Communication:
Prepare internal and external reports, updates, and materials on relevant public health information as required. Support the dissemination of evidence-based and culturally relevant program information.

Qualifications
Education:
Master's degree in Public Health or a related field preferred; Bachelor's degree required.

Experience:
Seven to nine years of progressive experience in public health, health policy, or related fields, with a focus on food and nutrition programming or policy. Proven experience in strategic planning, project management, fundraising, policy advocacy, budget management, and team leadership.

Skills:
Demonstrated commitment to advancing health equity and improving opportunities for Latino communities. Strong understanding of social determinants of health and health equity principles. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.

This position requires the ability to travel domestically for UnidosUS events or program sites several times a year.
