About the Role

The Brooklyn Museum is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Curatorial Affairs Director to lead its esteemed curatorial team. As a key member of the Museum's senior leadership, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the institution's collections and exhibitions, driving innovation, and fostering a culture of excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement curatorial strategies that align with the Museum's mission and vision, ensuring the highest standards of quality and relevance.
  • Lead and manage the Curatorial team, providing guidance, support, and resources to achieve exceptional results.
  • Collaborate with the Deputy Director for Art, Director, and other stakeholders to drive the Museum's exhibition and collection development programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, collectors, and other external partners to secure support for curatorial initiatives.
  • Oversee the Museum's collections management, including acquisition, conservation, and deaccessioning, ensuring compliance with best practices and institutional policies.
  • Develop and manage budgets, schedules, and resources to deliver high-quality exhibitions and programs.
  • Represent the Museum at national and international conferences, symposia, and other events, promoting its reputation and expertise.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in curatorial leadership roles, with a proven track record of success in exhibition development, collection management, and team management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including staff, donors, Trustees, and external partners.
  • High-level donor cultivation and grant development experience, with a demonstrated ability to secure support for curatorial initiatives.
  • Ability to balance creative and intellectual processes with strategic and entrepreneurial thinking, as well as administrative and financial responsibilities.
  • Management skills that foster high-functioning, self-sufficient teams that regularly meet or exceed expectations.
