Overview of the Role

The Surgical Services Manager is tasked with the comprehensive oversight of the Operating Room, ensuring effective leadership around the clock. This role encompasses both strategic and operational planning, alongside the development of programs and personnel, resource allocation, budget oversight, and the enhancement of quality measures to guarantee exceptional patient care and experience. The Manager exemplifies the core values of North Memorial Health.

Key Responsibilities:

• Directs the administration of the Operating Room, focusing on service scheduling, resource management, productivity enhancements, and spatial efficiency. Collaborates with relevant support services to secure necessary resources.

• Provides authoritative leadership and guidance to the Operating Room team.

• Engages in strategic and operational planning for Surgical Services, managing the execution of objectives and developing programs tailored to patient needs and departmental goals.

• Ensures the delivery of high-quality, cost-efficient patient care services. Identifies and implements operational improvements to enhance service quality, productivity, and financial outcomes.

• Leads initiatives for process and system enhancements aligned with hospital quality improvement objectives.

• Evaluates patient expectations and outcomes, measuring overall patient experience.

• Achieves financial performance targets for the Operating Room, overseeing the development of capital and operational budgets while managing financial performance within established parameters.

• Conducts human resource management for the Operating Room, selecting qualified personnel, providing ongoing performance feedback, and fostering a values-driven work environment.

• Oversees the training and orientation of Operating Room staff, ensuring they meet function-specific competencies and collaborate with support functions for skill development.

• Ensures compliance with information systems and documentation standards within the Operating Room.

• Adheres to all accrediting, licensing, and governmental standards relevant to operational responsibilities.

• Monitors and evaluates key performance indicators that reflect essential aspects of care and service.

• Initiates recommendations and follow-up actions to address identified issues.

• Fosters positive working relationships with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other key physician stakeholders.

• Communicates effectively with team members and key partners, ensuring timely and respectful exchanges of information.

• Achieves critical customer care, financial, and operational objectives as outlined in the annual work plan.

• Collaborates effectively with colleagues and partners to implement departmental initiatives and manage daily operations.

• Develops team talent through engagement and retention strategies.

• Organizes and schedules team activities to maximize productivity.

• Tracks and focuses on metrics that measure key business outcomes.

• Translates organizational vision and strategies to the team level, empowering members to meet patient needs innovatively and drive profitable growth.

Qualifications

Education


• Graduate of an accredited nursing program recognized by the MN Board of Nursing.

• Bachelor's degree in nursing; a Master's degree is preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for educational qualifications as appropriate.

Experience


• Minimum of 3 years of Operating Room nursing experience and 2 years in a clinical leadership role. A proven track record of increasing responsibilities is essential. A combination of education and demonstrated leadership experience may be considered in lieu of specific experience requirements.

Licensure/Certification


• Current RN licensure in the State of Minnesota or CRNA certification.

• Current BLS Certification.
