The Surgical Services Nurse Leader is accountable for the comprehensive management of the Operating Room, ensuring effective leadership and operational excellence around the clock. This role encompasses strategic and tactical planning, staff development, resource allocation, budget oversight, and quality assurance to enhance patient care and experience. The Nurse Leader exemplifies the core values of North Memorial Health.
Key Responsibilities:
• Directs the administration of the Operating Room, focusing on service scheduling, resource management, and productivity enhancements. Collaborates with essential support services to ensure optimal resource availability.
• Provides visionary leadership and guidance to the Operating Room team.
• Engages in strategic and operational planning for Surgical Services, overseeing the execution of objectives and the development of programs tailored to patient needs and departmental goals.
• Ensures the delivery of high-quality, cost-efficient patient care services. Identifies and implements operational enhancements to boost service quality, productivity, and financial outcomes.
• Leads initiatives for process and system improvements aligned with hospital quality enhancement strategies, including timely surgical starts and efficient scheduling practices.
• Evaluates patient expectations and outcomes, ensuring a focus on quality patient experiences.
• Achieves financial targets for the Operating Room, directing the formulation of capital and operational budgets while managing financial performance within established parameters.
• Oversees human resource functions within the Operating Room, including staff selection, performance feedback, and fostering a values-driven work culture.
• Manages the orientation, education, and competency development of Operating Room personnel, ensuring a high level of team competence.
• Ensures compliance with all necessary information systems and documentation standards.
• Adheres to the standards set by accrediting, licensing, and governmental bodies relevant to operational responsibilities.
• Monitors and evaluates key performance indicators that reflect critical aspects of care and service delivery.
• Initiates corrective actions in response to identified issues.
• Cultivates positive working relationships with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other key medical personnel.
• Facilitates effective communication within the hospital leadership team, acting as a liaison between management, staff, and external stakeholders as necessary.
• Strives to meet key performance indicators related to customer care, financial, and operational outcomes as outlined in the annual work plan.
• Collaborates effectively with team members and key partners to implement departmental initiatives and manage daily operations.
• Develops talent within the team, focusing on recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies.
• Organizes and schedules team activities to maximize productivity.
• Tracks and emphasizes metrics that measure essential business outcomes.
• Translates organizational vision and strategies to the team level, empowering team members to innovate in meeting patient needs and driving growth.
Qualifications
Education
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program recognized by the MN Board of Nursing.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing is required; a Master's degree is preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for some educational requirements.
Experience
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Operating Room nursing and at least 2 years in a clinical leadership role. A proven record of increasing responsibilities is essential. A combination of education and demonstrated leadership experience may be considered in lieu of specific experience requirements.

Licensure/Certification
• Current RN licensure in the State of Minnesota or CRNA certification.
